Allow me to introduce myself…

24 Jun

My name is Ivette and I have been housewifing for a year now. I’m an LA rockabilly, grad-school-drop-out that is now nesting in New York.

In case you hadn’t figured it out already, I’m a particular type of housewife – a queer housewife to be precise – which comes with its own set of loaded issues and fabulous advantages. To say that I am a housewife wouldn’t entirely be accurate either, since I’m not a “wife” per say….not yet anyway! I am happily engaged to my fiance Crystal (below).

She’s hot, right? We share a lovely apartment in Brooklyn from which we entertain friends and run our fashion company – Marimacho, a masculine clothing line for female and trans bodies. Here’s one of our designs:

When Marimacho isn’t keeping me busy, I LOVE to cook & bake. I’m half Mexican and half Cuban , so I cook a lot of the traditional meals I grew up with.

Chile Relleno Anyone?

I also happen to be VEGETARIAN, much to the dismay of my carnivorous Cuban finance. Somehow I manage to keep her happy with vegan chorizo and lots of cheese :) I will be sharing my many recipes here with you.

Like a true Rebel Girl, I am OBSESSED with music! I listen to everything from Celia Cruz to the Decemberists, Ska to underground hip hop – if its good I’m all over it!  I will be writing reviews of albums and shows from the artists I love, love to hate and everything in between. I’ll also include mixes, mash-ups and full sets from my favorite NYC Queer DJ’s. One AMAZING DJ that I love is DJ Shomi Noise. Here’s a little taste of a Latin set she did for the Azucar! Queer Latin Dance Party here in Brooklyn:

I guess I’ll end my introduction with my favorite topics of the moment: FEMME identity and SEX . I’m starting to feel more comfortable with my own femme visibility, identity and style and I love to talk to other queer femmes about their own ways of navigating this very interesting space in the queer community. As far is sex is concerned, what’s not to talk about?

Ciao for now!

Ivette
